Inspire Health Partners is a clinically integrated network that was developed by Columbus Regional Health, Schneck Medical Center, and physician members of the two hospitals’ medical staffs. Inspire is a physician-led, professionally managed organization whose participants function as a value-based health network.
One of the differentiating features of Inspire Health Partners from other clinically integrated networks or accountable care organizations is the direct inclusion of local employers in the leadership of the organization. The participants in Inspire Health Partners realize they share a mutual goal with local employers of providing access to the highest value healthcare services locally. The founders also realize that employers have expertise and insights that could be very helpful during the transformation of the local healthcare delivery system. For this reason, Inspire’s Board of Managers includes 25% employer representation. In addition to employer representation on the Board of Managers, a formal Stakeholder Satisfaction Committee and an informal Stakeholder Advisory Council play critical roles in providing guidance to the Board of Managers in regards to the needs of local employers and the employees that they represent.
As a clinically integrated network, the ultimate goal of Inspire Health Partners is to enhance the value of the services provided to patients. All of Inspire’s network providers are engaged in initiatives focused on increasing patients’ access to healthcare services, coordinating care within the health network, and increasing the value, in terms of quality and cost, of the healthcare services provided to patients. Realizing this vision would translate to a healthier and happier population. In addition, access to high value healthcare services is critical for our local employers. Inspire intends to provide our employers with access to a high value, community-based healthcare. By fulfilling its mission and realizing its vision, Inspire should help our communities to remain attractive to our current base of employers and attract new employers to our communities. Ultimately, a strong and growing employer base will benefit our communities as a whole.
Inspire Health Partners has a physician-led board, committees and sub-committees who work through the network’s operational requirements for physician participation.
Inspire Health Partners promotes the adoption and compliance with well-established evidence-based medical practices. Further, Inspire is intended to foster evidence-based medical practice through ongoing value-based performance monitoring, as well as the development and dissemination of proven clinical best practices among its providers. Inspire’s physician leadership promotes standards of practice that are set by its physician members through their participation in Inspire’s board, committees, and sub-committees. The goal is to standardize evidence-based best practices that member physicians feel represent the highest quality of care for their particular specialty. Participating physicians will agree to produce data that monitor each physician’s effectiveness in achieving high-quality standards and cost efficiency. Members will be held accountable in regards to a set of value-based performance metrics, but will remain in control of how they obtain the desired outcomes.
Inspire Health Partners was developed by Columbus Regional Health and Schneck Medical Center and members of their medical staffs to launch the new clinically integrated network, and more health systems will join the network in the future to further extend access to high-value healthcare services across southern Indiana.
No, it is a separate entity that resulted from the founding parties’ shared mission to ensure that their patients would retain access to the highest value healthcare services within their communities. As a clinically integrated network, Inspire is dedicated to continuously improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of care provided in the inpatient, outpatient, and physician practice settings. The organization’s focus on developing a more coordinated and higher value healthcare system should position all of its participants to succeed in this new era of accountable care and value-based reimbursement in today’s healthcare environment.
Inspire Health Partners is not a health insurance exchange. Health insurance exchanges, commonly referred to as the “Marketplace”, are government mandated stores where individuals may shop for insurance plans in a side-by-side manner. Health insurance exchanges are vehicles for selling health insurance products.
It is also not a health maintenance organization (HMO), which is a health insurance product that is often associated with capitated physician payments and a “gatekeeper” policy.
Inspire is a healthcare delivery system where all of its participants, including physicians and hospitals, are committed to coordinating care, optimizing outcomes, providing a superior healthcare experience, and delivering all of this at a reasonable cost.
The Inspire name was created as an acronym in which “in” represents both the location of the networks’ founding members and clinical providers, Indiana, as well as the fact that the organization intends to function as a clinically integrated network. “spire” is intended to convey both the vision of the organization, to be the pinnacle of community-based healthcare, as well as the values that the Inspire health network is built upon:
Service (to our patients and our communities);
Patient-centeredness;
Innovation (value-based);
Results (in regards to continuously moving healthcare forward); and
Excellence (in terms of patient experience and clinical outcomes).
